Nomfundo Maseti Takes Acting Nersa CEO Role

South Africa’s energy regulator has appointed Nomfundo Maseti as acting chief executive officer, placing an experienced regulatory official at the helm during a period of leadership transition.

Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa appointed Maseti to lead the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) from 25 October. She will remain in the position until a permanent CEO is appointed, although no timeline has been announced.

Maseti is a full-time member of the Energy Regulator, with primary responsibility for piped-gas regulation. Her appointment follows the conclusion of outgoing CEO Advocate Nomalanga Sithole’s extended term on 24 October.

Acting Nersa chairperson Ria Govender welcomed the appointment, highlighting Maseti’s expertise and institutional knowledge as important factors in maintaining regulatory continuity.

The leadership change comes as Nersa undertakes a separate recruitment process for a permanent chairperson.
Govender assumed the acting chairperson role on 15 June after Thembani Bukula stepped down for health reasons.

The regulator has yet to announce when permanent appointments to either leadership position will be finalised.
