GE Vernova Showcases AI and Grid Technologies to Support Africa’s Energy Transition
GE Vernova has highlighted a portfolio of digital and power system technologies designed to accelerate Africa’s industrialisation while supporting the continent’s transition to lower-carbon energy systems.
At the Africa Energy Forum in Cape Town, the company demonstrated solutions spanning power generation, grid modernisation and AI-driven emissions management, positioning them as key enablers of reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity.
A major focus was CERius™, GE Vernova’s AI-powered decarbonisation platform, developed to help utilities and industrial operators monitor and manage carbon emissions in real time. The software generates continuous, auditable emissions data, supporting compliance with international regulations such as the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which is expected to have growing implications for African exporters.
The company showcased the platform’s deployment at Tunisia’s Sousse B power station, operated by state utility STEG. According to GE Vernova, the project demonstrated consistent emissions monitoring while offering the potential to reduce investment and maintenance costs associated with conventional monitoring systems by up to 50%.
Beyond digital decarbonisation, GE Vernova placed significant emphasis on grid resilience as renewable energy capacity expands across Africa. The company released a white paper analysing lessons from Spain’s 2025 power system blackout, arguing that increasing renewable generation must be matched by investments in technologies that maintain system stability.
The report recommends solutions including aeroderivative gas turbines, synchronous condensers and advanced power electronics to support frequency and voltage control, helping electricity networks accommodate greater levels of variable renewable energy while maintaining reliability. A companion publication outlines broader strategies for modernising power systems as countries advance their energy transition.
GE Vernova said reliable electricity infrastructure remains fundamental to Africa’s industrial development, enabling growth across manufacturing, mining, agriculture and export industries. The company also highlighted its more than 125-year presence across the continent, supporting projects spanning power generation, transmission and distribution.

He noted that the company’s integrated approach combines power generation, grid stability technologies and AI-powered emissions management to help utilities and industries strengthen energy security while meeting evolving environmental requirements.
The showcase reflects growing demand for technologies that improve grid resilience, enhance emissions transparency and support the continent’s long-term industrial and energy ambitions.
