EXERGY Establishes Nairobi Hub for East Africa Expansion
EXERGY International is strengthening its position in Africa’s renewable energy market with the establishment of a new subsidiary in Nairobi, positioning Kenya as the company’s regional base for geothermal and clean energy development.
The Italian clean energy technology company announced on 14 September that EXERGY EAST AFRICA LTD. will operate from MJ1 Business Park in Westlands, Nairobi. The move follows an assessment of energy markets across the continent and reflects growing interest in East Africa’s geothermal resources and broader clean energy investment opportunities.
Kenya’s geothermal sector is central to the expansion. The country has close to 980 MW of installed geothermal capacity, while its estimated resource potential stands at up to 10 GW. Across the wider East African Rift System, geothermal potential could reach approximately 20 GW, creating a substantial pipeline for generation and the deployment of associated technologies.
EXERGY’s entry comes as private investment in Africa’s clean energy sector continues to expand. Investment rose from about US$17 billion in 2019 to almost US$40 billion in 2024. However, the company says significantly more capital and technology will be needed to keep pace with rising electricity demand and support industrial growth.
From its Nairobi base, EXERGY intends to offer a portfolio spanning Organic Rankine Cycle technology, waste-heat recovery, heat pumps and Battery Energy Storage Systems. The technologies can be applied across geothermal generation, industrial energy efficiency and energy storage, giving the company exposure beyond conventional power generation.
“Luca Pozzoni, EXERGY’s Deputy CEO, described Africa as a strategic growth market for the company, highlighting the importance of combining international technology capabilities with local market priorities.
Matteo Cavadini has been appointed Business Development Manager Africa and will be based in Nairobi. He will work alongside EXERGY Türkiye General Manager Erdoğan Arpacı and Pozzoni to develop opportunities across the region.
The subsidiary adds to EXERGY’s international footprint, complementing its headquarters and manufacturing operations in Italy and Türkiye, as well as the wider global network of parent company TICA Group.
