Azule Energy Deepens Namibia Commitment With Local Office And Leadership Appointment

Azule Energy has taken a significant step in strengthening its upstream footprint in Namibia with the formal registration of a local branch office and the appointment of Giovanni Aquilina as Country General Manager. The move, announced at the 2026 Namibia International Energy Conference (NIEC) in Windhoek, underscores the company’s long-term strategy in one of Africa’s most closely watched emerging exploration frontiers.

The establishment of a permanent in-country presence marks a shift from exploratory engagement to structured operational embedding. Aquilina, who assumes his role with immediate effect, will be based in Namibia and will oversee Azule’s operational activities, stakeholder coordination, and local development initiatives. His appointment introduces a sustained senior leadership presence on the ground, aimed at strengthening collaboration with government institutions, industry partners, and local communities.

Azule Energy Chief Executive Officer Joe Murphy described the development as a clear signal of intent, emphasising the company’s commitment to working in close partnership with Namibian stakeholders and building shared capacity within the local energy ecosystem.

The newly registered branch office provides the legal and institutional framework for Azule’s expanding activities in the country. The company holds an interest in Petroleum Exploration Licence 85 (PEL 85) in Namibia’s Orange Basin, operated by Rhino Resources. The block has already seen three exploration wells drilled—Sagittarius-1X, Capricornus-1X and Volans-1X—highlighting sustained technical and financial investment in assessing the basin’s hydrocarbon potential.

Industry observers view the formalisation of a resident leadership structure as consistent with a broader trend among international operators seeking deeper integration into host-country energy systems. For Azule Energy, the approach reflects a strategy centred on long-term presence, local capability development, and continuous engagement rather than intermittent oversight from offshore headquarters.

Aquilina’s mandate will include advancing the company’s local content strategy, with a focus on enhancing participation by Namibian businesses and professionals across the value chain. This includes skills transfer, procurement opportunities, and broader economic participation linked to upstream activity.

The announcement coincided with Azule Energy’s participation at NIEC 2026, where the company hosted a strategic session titled “The Azule Energy Way: Leadership Conversation.” The discussion explored the company’s growth outlook, operational philosophy, and partnership-driven approach to development in Namibia’s evolving energy landscape.

Together, the office launch and leadership appointment represent a tangible reinforcement of Azule Energy’s positioning in Namibia’s offshore basin—an area increasingly central to global exploration interest.
